Mystery: The Non-Existent Torii Gate That Appears Only Twice a Year

[Story] "There is one extra torii gate at this shrine." At Hikami Shrine, only during the early morning of the spring or autumn equinox, a light shaped distinctly like a torii gate appears on the floor or wall of the worship hall. Kayo, the retired former head priestess (and my grandmother, 44 years my senior), simply says, "It’s always been that way," and doesn't know the reason. When the current head priestess, Kaori, investigates the shrine grounds, she discovers that the worship hall, the tower gate, the bronze mirror in the main sanctuary, and the ridge of the eastern mountain all align in a straight line. For just a few minutes at sunrise, light reflecting off a bronze mirror or metal fitting caused the shadows of the building's pillars and crossbeams to overlap, forming a "Torii gate of light." In the end, Kaori realizes, "It’s a parting gift left behind by the master carpenters of a thousand years ago." [Comment] I had an AI generate a "cat manga" to meet a deadline; while cute, the content was a bit thin. I decided to ask Chappy to find a mystery genre concept—specifically, unraveling an ancient enigma rather than a gruesome crime—and generate something based on that. The story outlined above served as the prompt. While the logic isn't strictly airtight, it turned out to be a decent premise for a mystery-style piece.
