Western Dianthus

Dianthus flowers are found not only in Japan, but widely across Europe and Asia. In Japan, native dianthus came to be called “Yamato Nadeshiko” to distinguish them from the introduced “Kara Nadeshiko.” Dianthus varieties of Western origin and their cultivars are also sometimes referred to as “Seiyō Nadeshiko.” Similar in some ways, different in others. And both are beautiful.
