What is Japanese Style...?

Host: "I used to think that if I just dressed them in kimonos, the theme would be cleared..." Y: "I thought that and tried taking pictures, but it really just ended up looking like a regular commemorative photo." Host: "So, to add some variety, I thought of chibi characters!" Y: "We decided to have the chibi characters sit in seiza (formal kneeling position) and serve some kind of Japanese food." Host: "I think they're trying to serve something like sushi..." Y: "The sense of scale is..." Host: "And the punchline is a mysterious object on their head..." Y: "Sometimes things like this happen, teehee." I thought I could come up with something other than kimonos, but I couldn't think of anything. (＾＾； I'll just assume that the Japanese-style (?) dish I made as a last resort turned out to have an unexpectedly good flavor.
